Water & Health Resilience in Times of War
Minister Nathanael Liminski welcomed an economic delegation from Israel to the State Chancellery as part of the “Shalom Chaveruth” aid initiative. The students and startup representatives from the Sderot area are visiting Bochum with the support of the State Office for Israel to discuss topics related to DisasterTech and health resilience.
Together with partners such as the Georg Agricola University of Applied Sciences in Bochum, “JADDE” (Jerusalem Aidtech Disaster Relief Development Ecosystem) supports the economic reconstruction of the Israeli border region with the Gaza Strip while simultaneously assisting municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia through collaborations in the area of “resilience to climate-related disasters.” The aim is for Israeli startups to work with municipalities and researchers in North Rhine-Westphalia to find solutions for flood events and to build resilience in the healthcare sector.
“If we want to respond appropriately to disasters, we can do so better by working together across borders. That is why it is such a great achievement that bright minds from Bochum and Sderot have joined forces through a solidarity partnership as part of our Shalom Chaveruth aid initiative. They are now working hand in hand on solutions to address disasters more effectively and efficiently,” said Minister Liminski.
The delegation’s trip to Israel was preceded by a challenge program, a pre-accelerator, and a resilience accelerator focusing on water resilience (climate-related water disasters, urban water management, and blue-green infrastructure) as well as resilience and health. Participants included students and innovators from Sderot and other locations near the Gaza border. They were able to draw on the experience gained in the “JADDE Sapir Innovation Center” project, which had already hosted two successful hackathons at the beginning of 2024.
